ReelChains is a collaborative, multi-camera filming app. Nearby users join a shared recording session on their own phones, and our servers combine those individual camera feeds into automated "director's cut" and split-screen productions. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how your recordings are stored and shared, and the choices you have. It applies to the ReelChains mobile app and the reelchains.com website.
ReelChains is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. The app is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to register an account. ReelChains is often used to film youth sports and similar activities, which means children may appear in recordings. We address footage of minors separately in Section 9.
When you create an account, we collect:
We verify your phone number by sending a one-time passcode (OTP) via SMS. We use your phone number to confirm it’s really you at sign-up, to sign you in, and to help you recover access to your account. SMS messages are delivered through Twilio, our messaging provider (see Section 6).
This is the core of the service. When you take part in a recording session, the app captures video and audio from your device’s camera and microphone and uploads it to our servers in segments. Our processing servers combine the segments from all participants into finished productions. Recordings may contain images and voices of you and other people who are present, including people who are not ReelChains users.
ReelChains uses your device’s precise (GPS-level) location for two purposes, both tied to active recording sessions:
Background location is collected only during an active session, never when you are idle, and it stops when the session ends (including if you are removed) or after a short bounded period in the background. When location is being collected in the background, your device shows its standard location indicator. We do not track your location across your day or outside of sessions. You can control location access through your device’s system settings, though you will not be able to start, join, or remain in a session without it.
If you join through a club or team, or if a recording session is associated with a club at the time of filming, we store that affiliation. It determines who is allowed to see the resulting productions (see Section 4).
We automatically collect limited technical information so the service runs reliably, including:
The app and website store a small amount of data on your device — such as cookies, secure storage, or local storage — that is strictly necessary to keep you signed in and to operate core features. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
If you report another user or a piece of content, we collect the report details you provide (the reason, category, and any context) along with the identities of the people involved, so we can review and act on it.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your recordings to serve advertising.
Finished productions and the underlying footage are stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. Access is restricted: our servers issue short-lived, per-video access credentials only to users who are authorized to view a given production. A production is viewable by:
Recordings are not public, are not indexed for search, and are not accessible to other ReelChains users who were not part of the session or the associated club.
ReelChains uses automated systems, including machine-learning models, to assemble your productions — for example, to analyze the camera feeds and select which angle to show at each moment (the “scene director”). This processing happens on our cloud infrastructure and through Google’s AI services (see Section 6). These systems operate on the footage you and other participants submit; they do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
We share information only as described here. We rely on a small set of service providers (“sub-processors”) who process data on our behalf and are bound to protect it:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google Cloud Platform | Hosting, video storage, and processing of recordings and account data |
| Google Cloud AI / Vertex AI | Automated analysis used to assemble productions |
| Twilio | Delivery of one-time verification codes to your phone by SMS |
| Push notification provider | Delivery of session and account notifications to your device |
| Email provider | Account, invite, and security notifications |
We may also share information:
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app. When you delete your account, we remove your personal identifiers — your email, phone number, name, and profile photo — and revoke your active sign-in sessions.
Please note that productions are shared works. Recordings you contributed to but do not own may remain visible to the other participants or the club after your account is deleted, because removing them would alter content that belongs to others. You can request that productions you own be taken down by contacting us, and we will remove them from view.
You can:
Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any right, email ryan@reelchains.com; we will respond as required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.
ReelChains is for users 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 as an account holder. If we learn that an account was created by someone under 18, we will close it and delete the associated personal information.
Because ReelChains is commonly used to film youth activities, recordings may include children as filmed subjects. The adults who film, and the clubs and organizers who run sessions, are responsible for obtaining any consent required to record and share footage of minors, and for complying with the rules of their league, school, or organization. If you are a parent or guardian and want footage of your child removed, contact us at ryan@reelchains.com and we will act on your request.
We protect your information with measures including encrypted transport, hashed passwords, authenticated and access-controlled viewing of recordings, and restricted administrative access to our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident.
ReelChains is operated from the United States, and your information — including your recordings — is stored and processed on cloud infrastructure located in the United States. If you access ReelChains from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of ReelChains after an update means you accept the revised policy.
